Why and how I do what I do:
I’m entranced with the beauty I can uncover in natural stone. I emphasize the colors, patterns and contrasts buried internally. The stone is the singular focus of my efforts. No dyes or paints are used. I cut, grind, smooth and polish by manipulating the stone with my hands against simple machinery like saws, grinders and polishers. I feel my way through the process to bring out the best in each stone. It’s easy for me to get lost in this, and hours of work feel like minutes. A finished piece makes me feel like all is right in my little corner of the world. As a creative escape, I’ve found none better.
Other than necklace chains, I only sell what I make with my own two hands. No two pieces are identical. Every piece is an original pattern. Stone slabs, sourced from around the world, are my raw material. Occasionally I stabilize a stone slab with epoxy, and I use only sterling silver or sterling silver plated in 14-18 carat gold fittings. I do not use nickel-based or stainless steel metals. Metal use is minimized and the beauty of the stone is maximized.
