Mineshaft Thunderegg Agate Pendant (The Stabilizing Stone)
Description: A thunderegg is a nodule that is formed in rhyolitic lava flows. They are roughly ball-shaped and the inside gets filled with chalcedony and agate material. This canoe-shaped pendant was crafted from a slab taken from a thunderegg. The thunderegg was found at the Mineshaft thunderegg deposit located in New Mexico, United States. This pendant is primarily agate from the interior of the thunderegg. The pattern is unique, showing traditional agate banding. I believe the colors are unusually complimentary and the piece has a distinctive southwestern United States color/pattern combination. Approximate Size: The top is 1/8” wide and the widest point is 1/2”. Height is 2”, not including the fitting. Thickness is 1/4”.
Care: This is a very hard stone (6.5-7 on the Mohs scale) and can be brittle. It will have fairly good scratch resistance but may show a tendency to crack and spall out under a sharp blow. I would recommend you not clean the pendant over a hard surface. A drop to a hard surface could be disastrous. Remember, I highly polish my pendants so they will be slippery to handle. Due to its hardness and glass-like polish, this stone can be submerged in water. I would still avoid using ultrasonic cleaners and harsh chemicals. My recommendation for cleaning is using a damp cloth,followed by air drying, followed by using a polishing cloth.
