Nacozari Turquoise Pendant (The Serenity Stone)
Description: This elongated teardrop of Turquoise shows the incredible blue color typical of this stone. This piece was cut from a high grade (AAA) slab, and I consider it to be one of the most beautiful pendants I’ve made. This pendant has simple, clean lines creating an elegant shape that really helps that blue color pop. The polish is almost glass-like. The source slab came from the Nacozari mine in Mexico, which I believe is now closed. Turquoise has a long history going back to the ancient Egyptians and continues to be in demand today. Turquoise of this quality is becoming harder to find, especially in a finished pendant of this size. I hesitate to part with this. A sterling silver post fitting tops off the stone. Approximate Size: The top is 1/8” wide and the widest point is 3/8”. Height is 2”, not including the fitting. Thickness is 1/4”.
Care: This stone is at 5 - 6 on the Mohs hardness scale, which is in the upper soft range. This means you should store it where it will not rub up against other harder objects. Avoid things like placing it unprotected in the bottom of a purse, backpack or gym bag where something like loose change could scratch it. You also do not want to submerge it in water, use an ultrasonic cleaner or household chemicals to clean it. As usual, I would use a damp cotton cloth to clean it, let it air dry and then use a polishing cloth.
