Norwegian Thulite Pendant (The Happiness Stone)
Description: This tapered pendant is made of Norwegian Thulite, which is arguably the highest quality Thulite in the world. The color is a lovely soft-light pink with slight wisps of a dark mineral. Thulite is readily available on the stone slab market, but the higher quality Norwegian material — not so much. This pendant is topped with a sterling silver post bail and has a satin polish. Approximate Size: The top is 1/4” wide and the bottom width is 3/4”. Height is 1 & 5/8”, not including the fitting. Thickness is 3/16”.
Care: This is a fairly hard stone (6.5 on the Mohs scale) and can be brittle. It will have fairly good scratch resistance but should still be protected from hard objects. It may show a tendency to crack and spall out under a sharp blow. I would recommend you not clean any pendant over a hard surface. A drop to a hard surface could be disastrous. Remember, I highly polish my pendants so they will be slippery to handle. Due to its hardness and polish, this stone can be submerged in water, but I wouldn’t for an extended period of time. I would still avoid using ultrasonic cleaners and harsh chemicals. My recommendation for cleaning is using a damp cloth, followed by air drying, followed by using a polishing cloth.
Folklore: It is reported that Thulite helps with emotional healing. It helps one deal with negative emotions in a healthy way. It creates a more compassionate environment and supports processing emotions related to forgiveness. Thulite is best known as the Happiness Stone.
