Petrified Palm Tree Root Agate Pendant (The Life Lesson Stone)
Description: This is one of the largest pendants I have made. The material is from Indonesia and is the result of palm tree roots being buried in lava flows. It is both a fossil and an agate crystal. It exhibits a wonderful flame-like pattern. Over many thousands of years minerals have saturated and replaced the wood, creating this unique pattern and color combination. The pendant is topped with a sterling silver pinch bail, which complements the overall shape. I have difficulty finding this material with this pattern and when I do, if I can afford it, I buy it. Approximate Size: The top is pointed and the widest point is just over 1 & 5/8”. Height is 1 & 7/8”, not including the fitting. Thickness is 3/16”.
Care: This is a very hard stone (7-7.5 on the Mohs scale) and can be brittle. It will have fairly good scratch resistance but may show a tendency to crack and spall out under a sharp blow. I would recommend you not clean the pendant over a granite or tile countertop or over a concrete floor. A drop to a hard surface could be disastrous. Remember, I highly polish my pendants so they will be slippery to handle. Due to its hardness and glass-like polish this stone can be submerged in water for a short time. I would still avoid using ultrasonic cleaners and harsh chemicals. My recommendation for cleaning is using a damp cloth, followed by air drying, followed by using a polishing cloth.
